Backlash To Deadline Hollywood Article Citing Concern Over Too Much Ethnic Casting in 2015 Pilots
March 25, 2015 – Deadline Hollywood editor Nellie Andreeva wrote an article in the trade publication about the shift in ethnic casting after last season’s hits such as Empire, Black-ish, and How To Get Away With Murder. The article expressed a concern that “the pendulum might have swung a bit too far in the opposite direction.” The story received significant backlash on Twitter yesterday from both industry pros such as Shonda Rhimes, as well as the general public. A tweet and a growing number of retweets have suggested that Andreeva review the Bunche Center’s 2015 Hollwyood Diversity Report and other studies on industry diversity.
