Crenshaw’s NYT Op-Ed on President Obama’s My Brother’s Keeper
July 30, 2014 — Bunche Center-affiliated scholar Kimberlé Crenshaw explains in an op-ed piece in today’s New York Times what’s wrong with President Obama’s My Brother’s Keeper initiative. The $300 million program, she argues, focuses on boys and young men of color to the exclusion of their girl and young women counterparts — despite the fact that the latter face similar if not more daunting challenges in contemporary society. Thank you for your piece. As an organization that works with girls between 13-18 we see day in and day out the need they face. I believe there should be attention given to our young men, but not at the expense of putting our young ladies on the back seat.
Blessings
