September 15, 2015 – UCLA Today reports that Jazz legend Kenny Burrell, Distinguished Professor and director of jazz studies in UCLA’s departments of music and ethnomusicology and a Bunche Center affiliated faculty member, received the Los Angeles Jazz Society’s 7th Annual L.A. Jazz Treasure Award on September 4th during a celebration at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
June 29, 2015 – On June 17th, UCLA history professor and Bunche Center affiliated faculty member Scot Brown was featured on TV One’s Unsung DJ Quik.
June 12, 2015 – The Bunche Center’s 2015 Hollywood Diversity Report is cited in Deadline Hollywood as one of the reasons behind the industry’s growing interest in projects by and about African Americans. June 10, 2013 –Darnell Hunt, professor of sociology and director of UCLA’s Bunche Center for African American Studies, is interviewed on the KPCC Public Radio program, Take Two, discussing the Trayvon Martin trial.
June 5, 2013 – Phillip Atiba Goff, assistant professor of social psychology, and Bunche Center affiliated faculty member is quoted in a New York Times article about federal statistics showing that black Americans are four times as likely as whites to be arrested for marijuana possession.
June 4, 2013 – Phillip Atiba Goff, assistant professor of social psychology, and Bunche Center affiliated faculty member is quoted in an Associated Press editorial about golfer Sergio Garcia. The piece focused on individuals who make racial slurs and then claim they are not racist.
May 14, 2013 – The May issue of the International Communication Association Newsletter features their inaugural public lecture, The Hollywood Shuffle: Exploring Race and Ethnicity Behind and in Front of the Camera. The discussion looked at emerging research and firsthand accounts by prominent members in the entertainment industry.
