Center Talk! Los Angeles City Historical Society Honors Black L.A. Anthology

Check out pictures from the Los Angeles City Historical Society’s annual gala where Dr. Hunt and Dr. Ramon received the Miriam Matthews Ethnic History Award for their book, Black Los Angeles:  American Dreams and Racial Realities.  Each of them also received a Certificate of Recognition from the City of Los Angeles from Councilmember Tom LaBonge.

Darnell Hunt, Bunche Center Director, and Ana-Christina Ramon, the Center’s Assistant Director, will receive the Miriam Matthews Award for editing the book, Black Los Angeles:  American Dreams and Racial Realities, from the Los Angeles City Historical Society.  The award acknowledges important contributions to the understanding of the city’s racial and ethnic past.  The award is named in honor of the first African-American librarian in the Los Angeles Public Library system, Miriam Matthews, who was also an archivist and community activist. The award will be presented at the organization’s annual gala on December 10^th, 2013, at the Wilshire Boulevard Temple.
