U.S. Supreme Court Upholds Healthcare Law
June 28, 2012 — Surprising many, Bush-appointee and Chief Justice John Roberts joined the liberal wing of the Supreme Court today to uphold President Obama’s universal healthcare law. The Court voted 5 to 4 to uphold even the most controversial part of the law that requires every individual to have insurance or pay additional taxes to the IRS. When most of the provisions go into effect in 2014, black and Latino Americans are expected to disproportionately benefit because they are more likely than other ethnic groups to be among the nation’s uninsured.
